4 prospects the Detroit Pistons could target in the 2020 NBA Draft
Continuing our four prospects series, the next team we’ll be looking at is the Detroit Pistons who have the seventh selection in this year’s draft. ESPN’s Eric Woodyard reported that the team is intrigued by LaMelo Ball and that general manager Troy Weaver views trading up as an option.
This also goes in line with The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor saying that the Pistons are looking for a playmaker in this draft, which seems to suggest they’re looking at guards. With rumors of Detroit potentially looking to move on from aging stars Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose, the 2020 NBA Draft could mark a pivotal turning point for the franchise.
The Motor City is far removed from the days of the Bad Boy Pistons or the championship-winning and contending Larry Brown led teams of the 2000s. Detroit hasn’t won a division title since 2008 and is 61-87 in two seasons with head coach Dwane Casey. But if the team can re-sign forward Christian Wood to stay in Detroit alongside Sekou Doumbouya, Luke Kennard, and Thon Maker, hitting on the seventh pick could be crucial in starting a new era of Detroit basketball.
