Detroit Pistons: 4 prospects to target in the 2020 NBA Draft
By Evan Wheeler
The Reach: Patrick Williams, F, Florida St.
Patrick Williams seems to be a prospect I continue to bring up in this series and in this section specifically of being a supposed reach. But it’s really more about how he fits on these teams within the top 10 more or less and the risk of banking on his potential with a top-seven selection.
I personally really like Williams and even have him ranked in the top 10 on my own big board. There is a chance, at least in my opinion, that Williams ends up being the Kawhi Leonard or Paul George of this class.
He’s also been heavily linked to teams picking around this area, mainly I’ve read Detroit and New York love him. So this selection would make some sense in that aspect, but I’m just not sure how Williams fits within the logjam of forwards in Detroit, especially if the team is planning on bringing back Christian Wood.
I’m not sure this is a draft the Pistons can afford to miss hugely on and Williams could be a whiff at seven. Detroit would be better off taking a guard and focusing on their theme of adding a playmaker instead.
