The Minnesota Timberwolves could be settling on James Wiseman at No. 1 in the 2020 NBA Draft

Roughly one week away from the 2020 NBA Draft, there’s still not a consensus No. 1 overall pick. For the fans of basketball, that could add to the intrigue and theater that will come on draft night. For teams selecting in the top 3-5, it could create some unwanted anxiety and unpredictability that perhaps they’re not used to.

While the fact that the 2020 pre-draft process has been everything but normal, this is simply what many projected the 2020 draft class to be – deep, but not very top-heavy with elite talent.

Is that the biggest reason why there’s not a consensus No. 1 pick? Maybe not, but there’s no question that it has played a role. With that said, according to a recent report, there might be one prospect that is separating himself from the rest of the pack.

The Minnesota Timberwolves could be narrowing its eyes to selecting James Wiseman with the No. 1 overall pick.

"[via Bleacher Report]Multiple sources have told Bleacher Report the name they keep hearing now for the Timberwolves is James Wiseman. “Some within the Golden State Warriors think Wiseman is going No. 1, whether Minnesota keeps the pick or not,” one source plugged into the conversation said."

It remains to be seen whether this is just pre-draft smoke in an attempt for a team that really wants James Wiseman to jump up to No. 1 or if this is in fact something to keep an eye on heading into draft night.

Either way, there’s no question that there’s going to be great intrigue in the Wolves and what they ultimately elect to do with the No. 1 overall pick.

It wouldn’t be surprising for James Wiseman to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Wiseman has all the measurables that you look for in a promising NBA prospect. He’s a true 7-footer, has shown the ability to be a true force on the defensive end, is arguably the most athletic big, and filled the stat sheet during his small sample size at Memphis.

Even if this is pre-draft smoke, it’s not entirely off base. James Wiseman has a case to be the No. 1 overall pick in this draft. I don’t think anyone would have a huge problem if he was. Question is, will he be the No. 1 overall pick when the time comes, and will that selection be made by the Minnesota Timberwolves?
