Golden State Warriors

The Warriors are entering their most important offseason in recent history.

They’re armed with the second overall pick, a max contract/walking matching salary in Andrew Wiggins, and their eyes on the 2020-21 NBA championship.

Can they win the title right now by simply drafting someone second, filling out the roster with veterans, and minimum contracts? It depends on who you ask and sometimes it depends on how they wake up that morning and if they’re feeling nice.

They won their first title without KD but that was half a decade ago. Does that mean they need to bring in another “star” next to Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green?

I’m in the camp of no, but I’m also a bit biased and have talked myself into those 12 games with Wiggins wearing the yellow and blue a little too much.

If they do go “all-in” and move Wiggins plus the second overall pick, they might be able to either get a better player or someone who doesn’t play the same position as their two best players in Steph and Klay. Plus they’re probably more inclined to pick up a player to help Klay with the task of guarding the best player on the other team after his injury and the Andre Igoudala trade.

From the New Orleans perspective, if newly appointed head coach Stan Van Gundy wants to build a wall in NOLA, he can do it and get the Warriors to pay for it!

There might not be a better returning asset than the number two overall pick, even in a “bad” draft as many are calling it. I don’t think the Warriors do it.
