Playmaking

So there seems to be a notion out there that Maxey is just kind of a one not scorer-slasher as a prospect, but to me, there’s so much more depth to what he offers a team with his skillset. One of those skills being his ability to create for others and make plays off the dribble.

He might’ve only averaged about three assists per game last season, but he was also playing off of Ashton Hagans often. I’m not saying whatever franchise selects him should make Maxey their primary playmaker, but if they were to give him more responsibility in that aspect I think he would probably thrive in that role.

Maxey isn’t LaMelo Ball or Killian Hayes in terms of judging his ability as a passer, he can’t make some of the passes those guys do. But Maxey still is an effective playmaker, even if he doesn’t do it with the same flash as they are capable of or doesn’t have Magic Johnson-esque vision. He can make teams scramble with his slashing ability though and off of those scrambles, find openings in the defense to exploit.

You’re probably not drafting Chris Paul when taking Maxey, but to act like he can’t make plays and that there isn’t some promise for him as a shot-creator in the NBA isn’t accurate in my opinion.
