NBA Trade Rumors: Celtics eyeing Jrue Holiday; Magic looking to move Aaron Gordon
Less than a week away from the 2020 NBA Draft, as expected, there is plenty of smoke and the rumor mill is running rampant. It doesn’t help any considering that the NBA has had to shrink an entire offseason into, essentially a couple of weeks before the projected start of 2020-21 training camps.
We could be in for a chaotic first few days of the 2020 offseason when the NBA Draft day arrives. Ahead of the 2020 NBA Draft (November 18), it’s already been reported that more than a handful of teams are interested in either moving up or down at the draft or making a move for veteran players.
According to a recent report, the Boston Celtics are a team that has emerged as a potential landing spot for Jrue Holiday, who the New Orleans Pelicans have reportedly been shopping, and that the Orlando Magic are hoping to jump into the top of the draft by shopping Aaron Gordon.

"[via The Ringer]The Celtics have offered up their three first-round picks (nos. 14, 26, and 30) in trades to try and move into the lottery, but multiple league sources say they intend to reroute that pick to the Pelicans in exchange for Jrue Holiday.…League sources say the Magic are attempting to move up into the lottery by packaging this pick with Aaron Gordon."
Both of these tidbits are quite interesting. While it may be surprising to hear that the Magic are open to moving Aaron Gordon to move into the lottery, the Celtics using all of their first-round draft picks on Jrue Holiday would be interesting.
Of note, this is not a franchise that jumps to make moves. Danny Ainge has been one of the most conservative of executives in terms of giving up assets. Three first-rounders for Holiday seems a bit much, but could also signal something else.
Does that mean this team doesn’t have faith that Kemba Walker’s knees (which gave him trouble last season) may not hold up? Does it signal that Gordon Hayward could be on the move sooner rather than later? It’s difficult to say for sure at the moment, but for the Celtics to suddenly be all-in and for Jrue Holiday should signal some sort of alarm.
One thing we can agree on, however, is that the 2020 NBA Draft week and the start of the offseason are slated to offer quite the entertainment next week.
