Trade targets for every NBA team heading into draft week

The 2020-21 calendar year is beginning to take shape. After agreeing to begin the season on December 22, the NBA and players’ association also agreed to begin the 2020 free agency period shortly after the 2020 NBA Draft.

The draft is slated for November 18 and the free agency period will begin November 20. With the season beginning December 22, training camps will likely start December 1 with some sort of preseason taking place shortly after that.

After quite an unprecedented season, it appears we’re going to get an unprecedented offseason – one that is, essentially, squeezed into one month. Heading into NBA draft week and the start of the offseason, we explore one trade target for every NBA team.

Atlanta Hawks

Trade target: DeMar DeRozan

The Atlanta Hawks are one of the most interesting young teams in the Eastern Conference, led by Trae Young, John Collins, and Clint Capela. With a couple more developmental steps, the Hawks could find themselves in the midst of a playoff push in the East.

Still, that’s not guaranteed with Young and Collins, along with a few of their other young talents, taking significant strides in their development. One way to expedite that process? Acquiring a veteran “star” to help them on that front.

One potential fit is DeMar DeRozan. He’d essentially be viewed as a rental for 2020-21 and could be had for a fairly cheap price. He’d be able to slide in the backcourt with Young and could provide this team with a strong scoring punch and veteran experience that simply isn’t present in the locker room.
