The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to finalize a deal to add Dennis Schroder

The league office has stated that the trade moratorium will be lifted on Monday, November 16th at noon, but that hasn’t stopped teams from discussing deals. The first bit of action that has surfaced would be a deal between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Essentially, the deal being discussed is swapping point guard Dennis Schroder for Danny Green and the 28th pick in Wednesday’s draft. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news early Sunday morning. He has also stated that other teams that were pursuing Schroder have moved on which seems like a deal is in place.

The trade will be able to go through the league office Monday afternoon.

What does this mean for the Lakers? The Lakers are getting another playmaking guard that also is improved at the catch and shoot 3’s. Schroder averaged 18.9 points, 4 assists, and 3.6 rebounds last season while shooting 38 percent from 3-point range. By adding one of last season’s sixth man of the year candidates, the Lakers can bolster the second unit by adding the explosiveness of Schroder or he could even start for the world champions.

The Lakers by acquiring Schroder and moving Danny Green plus the pick frees up a little bit of cap space to add to their mid-level exception. With more money going towards their mid-level, the Lakers will be able to pursue a solid rotation player to add to their team via free agency.

The Oklahoma City Thunder seems like they are starting their rebuild this offseason. Rumors have been going around that the Thunder are looking to move on from Chris Paul. If true and combined with this trade all signs point that the Thunder are rebuilding now around their young guard Shai Gilgeous- Alexander and their war chest of draft picks. Adding No. 28 gives them another shot at landing a talented, young prospect.

What the Thunder decide to do with Danny Green is still up in the air at this point. They could try and move him to a playoff team in return for an asset or two. The Thunder could also keep him and use his veteran presence to help develop the young players that will be coming into the organization. Danny Green is on the final year of his two-year deal he signed with the Lakers the last offseason and is owed a tad north of $15 million.

I believe this trade to be a good trade for both teams. The Lakers get a quality playmaker to add to their roster that could possibly start for them. The Thunder added another draft pick and cap flexibility for next offseason and could even use Danny Green to net another pick or player. Personally, I think this to be a win-win for both teams involved.
