NBA Draft Day prediction: LaMelo Ball goes No. 1 overall

The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking for a fellow guard to complement D’Angelo Russell in the backcourt as their top overall pick.

Ideally, Anthony Edwards would seem like the sure-fire selection. He’s a shooting guard that possesses an athletic and physical nature to score amongst the trees and physicality inside on various dribble drives.

From beyond, he has an incredible ability of getting off a contested shot from anywhere off-the-dribble. Nonetheless, the Wolves have been enamored with the offensive versatility of LaMelo Ball for over a month.

Ball brings a passing skill-set that only a handful of players in the class have. He’s an assertive and crafty scorer that’s progressively improved scoring amongst contact. Yet, the biggest thing he can provide for the wolves is his off-ball movement which is rather an unheralded aspect in his game.

With Russell and Karl Anthony-Town expected to dominate most of the possessions for Minnesota’s offense, they’re going to need their top pick to profit on off-ball scoring situations as well as up-tempo transition buckets. Ball does both at a high-level which would make him the likelier top selection over Edwards.
