NBA draft winner: Washington Wizards

With the No. 9 overall pick, it wasn’t likely that the Washington Wizards were going to get the prospect at the top of their draft board. However, with Deni Avdija falling to Washington you could make the argument that the’s the player that they valued highly.

Avdija was a prospect that was being selected in the top 5 of some mocks and almost unanimously in the top 7. Avdija has one of the most impressive skill-sets of any prospect in this draft class and has the potential to be one of the most versatile players a few years down the line.

It’s unclear how “NBA-ready” he is or how much he’ll be able to contribute during his rookie season, but he’ll get his opportunity with the Wizards. He would be able to play off both John Wall and Bradley Beal, and if this season doesn’t work out they could also pivot and begin to build around the young duo of Avdija and Rui Hachimura.

The Washington Wizards made a great selection at No. 9. There’s really no gripes about it.
