Miami Heat free-agent target: Aron Baynes

After a breakout season a year ago with the Phoenix Suns, it’s no surprise that Aron Baynes will be considered one of the most sought after bigs in free agency this offseason. Coming off a season in which he averaged 12 points and six rebounds on 48 percent shooting from the field and 35 percent shooting from 3-point range, Baynes is the type of center that would fit next to Bam Adebayo.

More than anything, that could be the need sitting at the top of the Miami Heat’s wishlist this offseason. Even though Meyers Leonard flashed throughout the season with the Heat, he wasn’t the defensive force that the team needed in the playoffs.

Baynes is a much-better defender than Leonard and would be seen as an upgrade at the position. He, like Leonard, has a consistent 3-point shot that the Heat would love. After watching the way the Los Angeles Lakers dominated the Heat in the paint in the NBA Finals, It would be highly surprising for Miami not to add a center in free agency (even after drafting Precious Achiuwa).
