Looking back at the 5 best moves from NBA Draft night

The 2020 NBA Draft went about as normally as one can expect. None of the huge trade rumors we heard through social media came to fruition. Golden State stayed at No. 2 and took James Wiseman which seemed the plan all along. No superstar players were moved on draft leading up to a wild free agency.

These are what I believe to be the five best moves on draft night.

Best moves of the NBA Draft: Killian Hayes to Detroit at No. 7

I feel like the Detroit Pistons absolutely nailed their pick at No. 7. With their roster nearly barren with talent, first-year General Manager Troy Weaver had a tall order with this draft to add some young talent. Adding Killian Hayes with the 7th pick is a huge win for Weaver and the Pistons.

Entering the draft, Hayes was one of my favorite prospects. He oozes potential as a lefty offensive threat in the league. His phenomenal playmaking skill and ability to get to the rim are his best skills at the moment with room to improve his jump shot. Hayes stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs about 192 lbs giving him a very solid frame coming into the league. If Hayes can realize his full potential he would be an elite playmaking guard in the NBA.

Hayes will be an important part of what Detroit is trying to accomplish with their rebuild. One interesting story I heard about last night is that one of Killian Hayes’s influences is none other than Derrick Rose. Luckily for Hayes, he will get to learn from one of his influences right away. If the Pistons can retain Christian Wood, Hayes and Woods will be a very exciting pick and roll combination. Great move by Detroit at No. 7.
