Early winners and losers of the 2020 NBA offseason

The 2020 NBA offseason (officially) may not even be a week old, but there are still plenty of storylines to break down. A few teams have already made some big moves and others continue to work to improve their rosters ahead of the December 22 start to the 2020-21 season.

We look at a few early winners and losers of the 2020 NBA offseason thus far.

Philadelphia 76ers – winner

Notable moves: Trade Al Horford and Josh Richardson for Danny Green and Seth Curry, drafted Tyrese Maxey, signed Dwight Howard

After a hugely disappointing end of the 2019-20 NBA season, there were many uncertainties for the Philadelphia 76ers heading into the offseason. However, much of that tone changed as soon as it was announced that the Sixers were hiring Daryl Morey to head their basketball operations. And it didn’t take long for his presence to be felt.

In what felt like a matter of days, Morey has already begun to change the dynamic of this roster. It started on NBA Draft night in which the Sixers trade Al Horford to the Oklahoma City Thunder and then Josh Richardson to the Dallas Mavericks. In return, the Sixers netted Danny Green and Seth Curry, mainly, in those deals.

Morey and the Sixers carried that momentum into the NBA free agency period by adding Dwight Howard, just when it seemed he was about to announce his return to the Los Angeles Lakers. If there’s anything we know about Morey, we know he isn’t quite done yet.
