Atlanta Hawks – winner
Notable moves: Drafted Onyeka Okongwu, signed Danilo Gallinari, Kris Dunn, and Rajon Rondo
The Atlanta Hawks‘ offseason will likely be one that is both hated and loved. But there’s no question that on-court success will be the key for this team. The Hawks made a big move that suggests this is a win-now team. There are no more excuses for a disappointing finish for the Hawks in 2020-21.
After paying Danilo Gallinari, the Hawks now have a veteran star and scorer that Trae Young has needed during the early portion of his career. While Galo leaves much to be desired on the defensive end, he more than makes up for it offensively. He’s going to be a seamless fit next to Young and will bring some much-needed experience to this roster.
Where it gets confusing is how this Galo deal potentially impacts how the team views John Collins (he’s up for an extension soon, and he’ll likely be in line for a max). But that’s something the Hawks could figure out later, I suppose.
For now, the goal for the Hawks heading into the 2020-21 season begins and ends with the playoffs. If they don’t make the top 8 in the East, these moves will be tough to look back on.
