Portland Trail Blazers trade target: Zach LaVine

The Portland Trail Blazers need a change. They aren’t close to winning, they actually aren’t in the stratosphere of winning. There is a big difference between being competitive and being a contender.

As currently constructed the Trail Blazers are competitive but as currently constructed they will not be a contender. They can lament injuries and such but it does not cover up the fact that this roster minus a few minor alterations is gone as far as they can go.

That’s not to say blow things up, it’s more to say, move a key piece for a different key piece and see what happens. CJ McCollum has been the height of consistency for the Portland Trail Blazers for a number of years.

Lillard’s go to general, his right-hand man. CJ has been good during this time but at no point could you say he has been great. With Dame now 30 years old, it is time for the Trail Blazers to throw caution to the wind and make a move that might move the needle.

While it is potentially debatable whether Zach LaVine moves the neither considerably, it is more realistic to see the Trailblazers becoming a better team with LaVine and Lillard over CJ and Lillard. If at the very least, the Trail Blazers become significantly more entertaining to watch.

Lillard torching teams with his jump shot. LaVine with highlight dunks and his ability to catch fire from anywhere would give the Portland fans some more things to cheer about. It is not an ideal move but it is a move that would allow for the Trailblazers to get younger and add a player who arguably still hasn’t hit his peak yet.
