Reason No. 2 to believe n the Philadelphia 76ers: Offseason acquisitions

The Sixers’ offseason has been overshadowed of the spotlight in this free agency just because they didn’t sign a max player or trade for John Wall, or sign Chris Paul like other teams in this league have that have dominated headlines. The truth is, the Sixers have drastically improved their roster. First, they traded away their most brutal contract which was Al Horford.

Nothing against Al, but he’s just in a different stage of his career, and for$25-plus million for the next three seasons, not having him is much more valuable than his ability at this point. So they go from having two of the five worst contracts in the NBA (Horford & Harris) to one. There’s a reason Danny Ainge let him walk, again sorry Al.

I mentioned earlier that the Sixers still have one terrible and untradeable contract, Tobias Harris. Okay, here’s the case for Tobi, Tobi is still a good third option on a good team, but that’s not the important part. Remember when Tobias Harris played his best season in a contract year? Yeah come on you remember, it was for that scrappy Clippers team that traded him to Philly at the deadline. Who was the coach for that team? Oh yeah! Doc Rivers! The only silver lining in that deal is the fact that Tobias had his best year playing under Doc. There it is Philly fans, the justification for the Harris deal.

When you look back at the Sixers last year, they lacked shooting, and saying lacked is being nice. So they answer all of the Philly prayers and get two knockdown shooters, Danny Green and Seth Curry. Green shot just under 37 percent from 3 last season and shoots 40 percent for his career, not to mention has played with a ton of other stars, LeBron, Kawhi, Duncan and has a championship pedigree.

As for Curry, you’re getting a guy who went from four-year college player, paid his dues, and is now a guy that everyone would want on their team. Why? Well the former Blue Devil shoots 44 percent from 3 for his career, and last season shot an insane 47.5 percent in the playoffs, you can thank Luka’s brilliance for the bump. Seth Curry is also the son in law of new Sixers head coach Doc Rivers. I wonder if Seth was like “‘Preciate it Doc.” As he passed the salt at dinner after signing.

The last important addition is Dwight Howard. Dwight at this stage in his career just needs to do exactly what he did last year as a Laker. He needs to come in when Embiid needs a break, block shots, catch the occasional lob, and be a good energy guy. For the veteran minimum, that is money well spent.
