Why the Philadelphia 76ers should and shouldn’t trade for James Harden

As training camps have opened across the league, there are still plenty of questions surrounding what the 2020-21 NBA season holds for the Houston Rockets. And there’s no clear resolution in sight for a team that many expect to be a playoff team in the Western Conference.

The Rockets traded Russell Westbrook to the Washington Wizards in exchange for John Wall and a first-round pick last week, but a resolution has yet to be reached regarding star player James Harden.

Harden reportedly wants a trade (and would prefer one to the Brooklyn Nets) but Houston has been patient through this entire ordeal and, apparently, is still hopeful that Harden will show up to training camp and be locked into the season with the Rockets.

While that remains to be seen, there’s another report that suggests that Harden would be open to a trade to another contender beyond just the Nets. One potential trade partner that has been named and already linked to Harden this offseason (in large part due to Daryl Morey) is the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Sixers check all the boxes, too. They have the assets, have the general manager that would be open to taking a risk, and are considered a contender. For the Sixers, we make the case for and against trading for James Harden.
