Philadelphia 76ers: Making the case for and against trading for James Harden
What a decision for the Philadelphia 76ers should come down to
If James Harden is indeed available and shopped, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Philadelphia 76ers are one of the teams that makes a strong effort or, at the very least, kicks its tires on the possibility. Harden is a former MVP and one of the best players in the league and it’s not every day that one of them becomes available in the trade market.
The Sixers should explore a potential trade for Harden, but I’m not sure this is something that everyone in that organization signs off on if it means having to trade Ben Simmons. At that point, it wouldn’t surprise me if that decision ultimately comes down to the owner.
Even without James Harden, the Sixers are considered by many contenders. The big question is if the moves that they’ve made this offseason are enough to put this team over the top in the East. Or, even just to take the next progressional step after somewhat taking a step back last season.
The Philadelphia 76ers might be better with James Harden for the next two or three seasons, but if this organization truly believes that their championship window could be 5-10 years with both Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons as their two main pieces, I’m not sure how this organization agrees to make this deal. And perhaps it’s one that they shouldn’t.
