The 5 NBA teams impacted the most by Giannis Antetokounmpo signing a max extension with the Milwaukee Bucks
The biggest question of the NBA offseason has officially been answered. Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was eligible to be a free agent next summer, has announced his intention to sign a supermax contract extension worth $228 million with the Milwaukee Bucks.
He is slated to be under contract with the Bucks until the 2025 season. Throw away the 2021 free agency plans, Giannis is staying put.
Now that we know Giannis isn’t going anywhere in free agency next offseason, we take a close look at the five teams that will be impacted by this decision the most.
Milwaukee Bucks
It’s no surprise to see the Milwaukee Bucks as the first team on this list. It makes sense. Giannis is now under contract with the Bucks for the next six seasons, at least. That means the Bucks will be championship contenders in the Eastern Conference until his contract expires with the team.
It appears that trading for Jrue Holiday (and nearly pulling off a sign-and-trade deal for Bogdan Bogdanovic) showed enough to Giannis during the offseason. Now that Giannis is locked in, it could ease the (unintended) tension in both the locker room and front office.
The Bucks are the big winners here, of course, and the outlook for the franchise has changed dramatically with simply one stroke of a pen.
