NBA preseason overreaction: Isaac Okoro can play

Now, if we ignore the fact that they got torched by the Knicks, the Cleveland Cavaliers starting wing and fifth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft Isaac Okoro has strung together a few good performances in preseason.

In four preseason games, Okoro has put up just under 12 points per game and is hitting 46 percent of his triples while guarding the best wing on the other end of the court. Again, it’s preseason, so when I say the “best wing,” we have to acknowledge that the best of the best aren’t playing and the ones who are don’t have the same intensity as a usual NBA game.

Okoro guards TJ McConnell for the potential game-winner, then runs down the other end for an and-one game-winner for himself.

After that one game, his Rookie of the Year odds jumped a notch. Whether warranted or not (we have to keep remembering it’s just preseason, but the Cavs rookie is going to get minutes on a depleted Cleveland wing rotation, he looks comfortable, and what’s to say he can’t keep it going?
