Indiana Pacers: Boston Celtics will be first test for Pacers in 2020-21
The Indiana Pacers will get their first test of the season in Boston
The Indiana Pacers sit undefeated at 2-0 to open the season. This marks the Pacers’ first 2-0 start since the 2013-14 season and has amassed impressive wins over New York and Chicago. Sunday night, the Pacers’ first true test of the season lies ahead of them as the Boston Celtics come to Indy for a Sunday night showdown.
The Celtics are one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference despite what may have ensued on Christmas day against the Brooklyn Nets. The Celtics and Pacers have been more acquainted than usual the past few years with the playoff sweep still fresh in many fan’s minds from two years ago.
Throw in the Myles Turner for Gordon Hayward trade rumors and this one has the fixings for a juicy game early in the season. Could we potentially see a Myles Turner “revenge” game tonight, showing the Celtics what they missed out on? I sure hope so.

Nate Bjorkgren’s new system has been a breath of fresh air for Pacers fans. The movement on both sides of the ball has been a marvel to watch, night and day from what we are used to seeing from a Pacers squad. Three-point shots are going up at an all-time high as the Pacers finally catch up to the modern NBA. Tonight will be the first real test for this system as it finally goes up against playoff level competition, showcasing what it can do against an elite team.
There are three key factors for the Indiana Pacers if they want to leave Bankers Life Fieldhouse tonight with another tally in the win column. The Pacers have been firing up franchise highs in 3-point shots and will need a good amount to fall tonight if they are to secure a win. Indiana’s active defense has been one of their best strengths.
It gives the Pacers extra possessions by disrupting passing lanes creating turnovers. The size matchup is in the Pacers’ favor tonight. Domantas Sabonis and Myles Turner should give the Celtics fits tonight as they are a smaller-sized team. I expect both players to have very solid games against Boston.
This game against the Celtics is the first of many tests the Indiana Pacers will face all season long, a glimpse of the true potential of this team. Win or loss this will be a great game for the eye test, showing us what we are doing right and wrong early in the season.
