The Golden State Warriors have been rather mediocre
The Golden State Warriors haven’t exactly been a team you would classify as mediocre in quite a while. Especially not over the past five to six years when at full strength. The same can be said about the Warriors both before and after Kevin Durant’s arrival.
Durant has now exited and is in Brooklyn looking as amazing as ever and Klay Thompson will miss a second consecutive season due to a leg injury, the Warriors are looking about as mediocre as a team can look. Even with a healthy Stephen Curry back on the court, the Warriors have struggled early on this season. Draymond Green is yet to make his season debut sitting out the first four games of the season thus far with a foot injury.
Simply put, the Warriors just do not have the artillery required for the battle.

For what Green has done on the court over the years for this team, he is not the scoring threat the Warriors appear to be lacking currently. Management has high hopes for Andrew Wiggins and even traded for Kelly Oubre Jr. once the team found out Thompson would be out all season. Through four games, neither guy looks to be consistent enough alongside Curry to make this team a threat in the West, even once Green returns from injury.
The Warriors did get back to .500 (2-2) after beating the hapless Detroit Pistons on Tuesday, 116-106 in Detroit. Both Warrior wins so far this season have come against below-average teams almost guaranteed to miss the playoffs in the Pistons and the Chicago Bulls. They beat these teams by a combined 11 points in back-to-back games.
The first two games of the season were losses to the Brooklyn Nets on opening night and the Milwaukee Bucks on Christmas day. And this is where the real discrepancy in lack of talent and mediocrity shines brightest. The Warriors lost these two games by a combined 65 points.
These season-opening losses were against two of the top three teams in the Eastern Conference, but it does show how quickly the mighty have fallen.
The return of Green to the starting lineup should help, but the Warriors need another consistent scorer to complement Curry, and so far, it just does not seem like Wiggins and Oubre Jr. are that compliment.
News also broke on Tuesday about a potential trade the Warriors might be interested in once Green is back on the court. This was mentioned by, Yahoo! Sports NBA Insider Chris Haynes on his podcast, Posted Up with Christ Haynes.
"“I’ll say this: If when Draymond comes back, they don’t fare well, we could see a scenario play out where Draymond will be put out on the market for trade bait,” Haynes explained. “We could see that, the way this franchise is going.“I know a team that would, oh my goodness, I know a team that would salivate if that was the case,” Haynes added. “I’m not gonna mention that…I know a team that would be salivating.”"
It sounds like a juicy little piece of information Haynes is choosing to hold onto for the time being. If it is true, this news makes Green’s return all that more interesting once he is finally back with the team.
Green turns 31 in March, and many around the league are already wondering if his best days are behind him. Similar to that of the Warriors dynasty.
