Stephen Curry cooks Blazers in Golden State Warriors win

Stephen Curry’s alter ego ‘Chef’ Curry returned to the NBA Sunday night in a 137-122 shellacking of the Portland Trail Blazers, dropping a new career-high with 62 points in the victory for the Golden State Warriors.

It was clear from the start that Curry was determined to show the doubters he still had “it,” so he came out and put up 21 points in the first quarter. Heading into halftime, Curry had 31 points and 45 at the end of the third quarter.

Curry jacked up 31 total shots Sunday against the Blazers and splashed on 18 of them for 58.1 percent and made 8-16 3-point shots in the game. This is the aspect of Curry’s game that scares opponents most because he can get extremely hot shooting the ball on any given night, and it can come out of nowhere, essentially.

You can say the same about fellow splash brother Klay Thompson who once scored 60 points in three quarters against the Indiana Pacers and only played 29 minutes in that game.

Curry put on a phenomenal show in San Francisco Sunday night and the only thing that could have made this performance even more enjoyable would have been fans in the building to witness it. Outside of that, you could not ask for more out of the Golden State Warriors and Curry as they also won the game by 15 points.

The Blazers are not exactly known for their stellar defense, but on Sunday it did not matter. Curry roasted every defender the Blazers threw at him. Gary Trent Jr., Robert Covington, Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum it did not matter. The ‘chef’ was so on one he took on the whole Blazers team and came out victorious on the other end.

As it stands now he is second in the league in scoring at 32.3 points per game and fourth in PER at 27.92. These are two major stat categories considered by those who vote on the MVP award. Yes, it is early in the season, but if Curry can go on a tear and the Warriors can be consistent and win a few games over top teams, then who knows?

Curry could see himself in the conversation for a third MVP award, especially if he can carry this team to the playoffs without Klay Thompson and prove his detractors wrong. Curry has the opportunity this season to change the minds of many pundits and talking heads, and if he has a couple more explosions like this game, he’ll have no problem doing just that.
