Kyrie Irving is expected to be out another week for the Brooklyn Nets

After a quick start to the 2020-21 NBA season in which the Brooklyn Nets opened the campaign with back-to-back impressive wins over the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics on national TV, many were quick to crown this team as the overwhelming favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference.

However, since that impressive start the Nets have hit a rough patch. In the nine games since, the Nets are just 3-6 and have had to play without Kyrie Irving in the lineup for the past week. He’s been out for personal reasons and, according to a recent report, isn’t expected back anytime soon.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"Irving was already ruled out of his fourth straight game Tuesday night against Denver, and sources say that, at a minimum, he is expected to miss Wednesday’s game against New York and Saturday’s against Orlando. His absence has been attributed to personal reasons."

The hope is that everything is OK in Kyrie’s personal life and it doesn’t provide anyone with any favors to speculate on why Kyrie Irving has elected to be away from the team at this time. As far as its on-court impact, it’s clear that the Nets miss their star. And hopefully he can be back sooner rather than later.

At this point though, it doesn’t appear that Kyrie is going to rejoin the Nets this week.

In his absence, the Nets have struggled by going 1-2 with losses against the Memphis Grizzlies and the Oklahoma City Thunder – two teams that, with all due respect, a contender such as the Nets have no business losing to.

During the three games that Kyrie has been out, the Nets have just the 20th ranked offense and 19th ranked defense. Of course, it’s an extremely small sample size but the disconnect is clearly there.

For a team that is still trying to learn how to play together, every regular season game is crucial. Assuming that everything is OK in Kyrie’s life, the Brooklyn Nets need him back in the lineup sooner rather than later.
