Washington Wizards: Somewhat expectedly, Scott Brooks is on the hot seat

Scott Brooks is on the hot seat for the Washington Wizards

I don’t believe anyone thought that the Washington Wizards thought that they’d be 3-8 through the first 11 games of the 2020-21 NBA season. Especially after the team swapped John Wall for Russell Westbrook before the season.

Even though Westbrook may not be the NBA MVP candidate that he was a few years ago, he’s still a really productive point guard and simply falls out of bed and lands into a triple-double. Plus, Bradley Beal is an up-and-coming superstar and one of the best overall scorers in the NBA at the moment.

Not to mention that the Wizards also have a few valuable young, promising players on their roster too. Being 3-8 at this point in the season, just by looking at this team on paper, is an utter failure on the part of this franchise.

Generally, when teams underperform, the first to blame is a head coach. So, it’s somewhat expected when it’s now being reported that Wizards head coach Scott Brooks could be on the hot seat.

"[via The Ringer]League sources say Brooks is sitting firmly on the hot seat."

Brooks has been with the Wizards since the 2016 season and considering how much the team has underperformed over the last few seasons, it wouldn’t be a surprising move. That said, it would be one that would come with potential repercussions.

What could firing Brooks mean for the future of this team? If the franchise believes it’s time to move on from Brooks and start over, in a way, does that mean it’s also time to potentially blow-up the roster and start over with a complete rebuild across the board?

The Wizards are in a rough spot and I’m not sure if there’s an “easy” answer to any of this team’s current problems or issues – and that’s OK.

Nevertheless, the Wizards are a team that should be kept an eye on. The longer their rough start goes on, the more a potential blow-up could be in play. But one thing the Wizards need to figure out before making any rash moves is whether this is just a rough start or if this is simply a bad team.
