Brooklyn Nets’ free-agent target: Tyson Chandler

The Trade of Jarred Allen leaves a hole in the Nets’ rotation. Rookie Reggie Perry has been solid in the minutes he’d been given, but a vet like Tyson Chandler could fill that void. The veteran big man hasn’t officially retired just yet. The New York Knicks reached out for a reunion, but now an even more intriguing opportunity across the bridge presents itself.

A former NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner, Chandler should have enough left in the tank to do what he does best. Bring a menacing presence, alter shots, rebound and create second-chance buckets, and finish at the rack when called upon.

He got caught up in Mike D’Antoni’s small-ball experiment in Houston last season, but his veteran presence was key and could be helpful for a contender. After playing with and being around James Harden all season last year, bringing him and his voice in could help keep things smooth.

They will miss Allen’s youth, but they won’t miss a beat with the combo of Chandler and DeAndre Jordan. Their carbon copies, both athletic and ferocious around the rim. The Chris Paul tie is there as well. Chandler, Jordan, and Uncle Jeff Green would keep things in line off the floor. They don’t have many, but signing a big would address the Nets’ biggest need.
