NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks, Clippers eyeing Derrick Rose?
With the NBA Trade Deadline roughly two months away, it’s only natural for trade whispers to begin.
Teams that have gotten off to a rough start to the season wishing to punt on this year will emerge as sellers in the next few weeks. At the same rate, teams looking to improve their roster as the playoff push approaches will be the buyers.
One player that will undoubtedly be sought after on the trade block, if he indeed is available, will be Derrick Rose. Expectedly, the Detroit Pistons are not going to be in playoff contention in the Eastern Conference and are currently 4-13, good enough for 14th in the conference.

Despite Detroit’s lack of team success, Rose is still enjoying a fine season. The 32-year-old guard is averaging 15 points and five assists per game on 43 percent shooting from the field. It should be noted that he’s coming off a season in which he averaged 18 points per contest on a career-high 49 percent shooting from the field.
Rose may not be the super-athletic superstar that he was at the beginning of his career, but he’s still a productive rotation player that could provide any contending team with depth in the backcourt.
According to Shams Charania (subscription required), two teams that are expected to be interested in Rose’s services are the LA Clippers and New York Knicks. The expectation is that there will be several other teams interested if in fact, the Pistons elect to move Rose at the NBA Trade Deadline.
It’s not entirely surprising to see the Clippers on this list; this is a championship-contender that will be navigating the trade market for any potential significant additions. Rose would qualify as such. For the Knicks, this one is a bit more curious.
New York could use depth in the backcourt, but adding Rose is likely more of a rental at this point in his career than anything. The Knicks targeting Rose would suggest that they’re buyers, hoping to make a real push for the playoffs.
At 8-11, sitting in the 9th slot of the East, it really doesn’t make all that sense for New York to try and make a push for the playoffs. They’re likely not a top 8 team in the conference and would have to part ways with an asset for a possibility that’s not a sure thing.
Then again, this team hired Tom Thibodeau and there’s a connection there. Plus, I’m not sure Thibs is in the business of a long rebuild. Perhaps they’d make a move or two that could help this team and their playoff push. Maybe I’m wrong. Either way, if Derrick Rose is on the open market, there will be several teams interested. Not just the Clippers and Knicks.
