New York Knicks trade candidate: Mitchell Robinson

Perhaps the most controversial trade candidate for the New York Knicks is Mitchell Robinson. In a vacuum, this might seem like a dubious idea for New York to even think about trading Robinson. However, when you actually look at this situation objectively, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Knicks, at the very least, took a few calls on Robinson ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline.

For one, Robinson has a team option for next season and then after that, they’ll be able to make a long-term decision on him. Though, there have been signs recently that perhaps Mitchell and the Knicks may not be on the same page.

There was a deleted tweet that suggested that Robinson was upset about his role with the team. Then, there was a report that there wasn’t a lot of confidence that the two sides would be able to reach an extension. In fairness, Robinson’s trainer shot that rumor down. Still, as is the case many times in the NBA, where there’s smoke there’s often fire.

Additionally, Robinson hasn’t been as productive or efficient as he was last season. Just something as, perhaps, added doubt for the Knicks to ponder.

It would be interesting to see what Mitchell Robinson would garner on the open market and should be something the New York Knicks should weigh. Especially if there are any concerns about reaching an extension.
