NBA Trade Rumors: Derrick Rose’s time in Detroit is coming to an end, as the Pistons and Rose have reportedly agreed to part ways.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, both Derrick Rose and the Detroit Pistons have mutually agreed to part ways in the best interests of both parties. Rose is currently out of the rotation due to personal reasons, missing the team’s clash against the Los Angeles Lakers.
This news also comes with the report that the New York Knicks are actively discussing a trade with the Pistons to bring Derrick Rose back to the team.
It has been rumored over the past few weeks that the Knicks (along with the LA Clippers) were interested in acquiring the services of the former MVP, with other teams also talking to the Pistons about Rose.
While no longer in his prime due to injuries, Rose is still a valuable contributor on the floor for every team he plays for. This season for the Pistons, he has averaged 14.2 points and 4.2 assists per contest in his 15 games played for Detroit.
A move to the Knicks would see Rose fill the void the team has at the point guard position, which has often been a weak point for the Knicks in recent years. It would also see Rose return to the Knicks after he played there during the 2016-17 season.
During his stint with the Knicks, Rose averaged 18 points and 4.1 assists per game, showcasing that he still has the talent to be a good scorer and solid playmaker. A move to the Knicks would also see him reunite with Tom Thibodeau for the third time in his NBA career, after stints with the head coach at the Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Rose has not played a game since the Jan 30 clash with the Golden State Warriors due to injuries and personal reasons, and the Pistons have struggled with a 5-17 record on the season. The former MVP will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, with many teams hoping to make the playoffs interested in adding him to their squad.
Time will tell whether Rose will suit up for the Knicks again, but with this news, it is confirmed that Rose will not be sticking around in Motor City much longer.
