Sacramento Kings

If you’re the Sacramento Kings, what are you? Well, you’re currently a half-game back from being in the playoffs, why would you make a trade? Well, here’s the case. Marvin Bagley has been injured and has underperformed during his Kings’ tenure after being drafted second overall in the 2018 draft, in a draft with Luka Doncic and Trae Young still being available for Sacramento.

Also, the Kings have a trade to make, maybe a couple. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Kings traded any one of Harrison Barnes, Buddy Hield, or Bagley. One of them could be moved in a bigger package for Collins.

You move someone and maybe something else that’s expendable for Collins and you’ve upgraded. The second reason is that they would be addressing Collins’ main complaint in Atlanta, Trae Young’s style. Although De’Aaron Fox’s style is having the ball in his hands a lot, it’s more inclusive for others and still vastly different. The point being, I think Collins will enjoy playing with Fox more than Young.

If you’re the Hawks, it’s simple. You as an organization have expressed that you do not want to overpay for John Collins. Collins’ numbers are down even though he is still productive, they are down. It gets you somewhat of an asset back in Marvin Bagley rather than just losing Collins in free agency.

And lastly, you get Bagley back on with this year and next year under contract. That’s about a year and a half to decide if you want to re-sign him, extend him, trade him, or let him walk. You get a fresh face in there who doesn’t have any issues with Trae Young as far as we know and buy yourself some time and hope Bagley becomes the player we thought he could be.
