Why the Toronto Raptors shouldn’t trade for Drummond: The reward isn’t worth it
It’s understandable if the Toronto Raptors are not interested in completely blowing up this roster and starting over from scratch. In fact, that’s not even what I believe this team should do heading into the trade deadline.
Toronto has a couple of nice pieces, centered around Pascal Siakam, and there is a strong pivot point for this team. That said, I’m not sure if acquiring Andre Drummond is exactly what this team needs at this point.
Even if Toronto still wants to make the playoffs this season, Drummond would help but wouldn’t exactly be the ideal target for this team. It would be such a short-minded approach to the trade deadline, that the risk would far outweigh the reward.
Acquiring Drummond might catapult this team to a top 5 or 6 team in the East, but wouldn’t exactly close the talent gap between the contenders of the East and the Raptors. Drummond is a nice player but wouldn’t exactly raise Toronto’s ceiling all that much.
