Andre Drummond trade destinations: Boston Celtics
Likely the only team who can acquire Andre Drummond through a trade without giving up much value, the Boston Celtics will likely be a contender in the race to acquire Drummond’s services.
Boston has been rumored to be interested in Drummond before, and despite acquiring Tristan Thompson during the last free agency period, the former All-Star should still be on the Celtics’ radar. Boston has struggled with the center position, as while Thompson and Daniel Theis are good enough at the position, Drummond provides a big improvement over the two.
The pair of Thompson and Theis are averaging 15.9 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. To compare, Drummond is averaging more points and more rebounds than the two combined, as the big man averages 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. While stats are not everything, the big difference between Drummond and the Celtics two big men is striking.
Even if Drummond is not bought out, the Celtics could also acquire the big man through a trade exception acquired through trading Gordon Hayward to the Charlotte Hornets, which is a staggering $28.5 million. While the Celtics would still have to free up some cap space, it would be worth it to acquire a big man of Drummond’s skills in order to strengthen the already strong core and compete for a championship.
