NBA All-Star snubs: Pascal Siakam, Toronto Raptors

This will be the first time in seven years that the Toronto Raptors will have no All-Star selections on their roster; especially surprising after having both Pascal Siakam and Kyle Lowry selected just a year prior. After the departure of Kawhi Leonard in the 2019 offseason, Toronto’s front office very clearly considered Siakam to be their new face of the franchise.

Averaging 20, 7, and 4 leading the 5th seeded team in the East, one would think this is All-Star caliber, particularly so considering Siakam averaged similar numbers in 2020 and was given his first All-Star appearance. While these numbers are around that of All-Star worthy talent, it isn’t anything explosive. And that’s exactly what the Raptors lack: explosiveness.

If Toronto wants to win their second ring in three years, they’ll need their number one option to step up. They will also need him to shoot better, as he took a significant drop in 3-point percentage this season barely shooting above 30% from deep. The evidence for Siakam to be and to not be heading to Atlanta this March remains fairly of equal balance. While he definitely could’ve made the roster, there were others doing more with less that took his spot.
