With how the Dallas Mavericks have looked through nearly through the first half of the 2020-21 NBA season, it’s not surprising to see their name in and all around NBA trade rumors. What is surprising, though, is the fact that they are reportedly quietly gauging the trade market for Kristaps Porzingis.

If this report is in fact true, it would throw a huge wrench in the 2021 NBA Trade Deadline. While there’s likely a large sea of water between the Mavs gauging the trade market on Kristaps and actually trading him, the idea is quite fascinating.

Even though it would be highly unlikely for the Mavs to move Kristaps at the trade deadline, there are certainly more than a few teams in the league that should get on the phone and attempt to pry Kristaps out of Dallas. Perhaps the asking price isn’t as high as the expectation would be.

Despite his injury concerns, Kristaps is still a really good player and is averaging 20 points and eight rebounds on 47 percent shooting from the field. He could play a valuable role on another team if the Mavs don’t believe he’s the best second option next to Luka Doncic.
