The Philadelphia 76ers should do whatever they can to land Kyle Lowry
The Philadelphia 76ers need to trade for Kyle Lowry.
The Philadelphia 76ers, for the most part, have been one of the most consistent teams in the Eastern Conference in the midst of an unprecedented 2020-21 NBA season. The Sixers are sitting in the top spot of the Eastern Conference, at 21-11, and are in a position where they need to go all-in heading into next month’s NBA Trade Deadline.
When the playoffs come around, there’s no question who the favorite will be in the Eastern Conference. Despite the fact that the Sixers might be in the No. 1 seed to begin the postseason, it’ll be the Brooklyn Nets that will be the overwhelming favorites to emerge from the conference and represent the East in the NBA Finals.
And rightfully so. The Nets simply have the best top-level talent in the Eastern Conference. In fact, you can make the argument that there isn’t a trio in the NBA that can top what the Nets can offer – Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and James Harden. The Nets have one of the most dynamic offenses in NBA history and have just enough on the defensive side of the ball that they need to win.

Kyle Lowry could raise the ceiling for the Philadelphia 76ers
The big question for a team such as the Sixers heading into the second half of the basketball year revolves around whether or not they should make a big splash at the trade deadline. One potential name that has been linked to the Sixers over the past few weeks and, interestingly enough, is interested in playing for Philadelphia (according to a report) is Kyle Lowry.
Lowry is in the final year of his contract with the Toronto Raptors, and there’s no guarantee that he would want to re-sign with the team during the offseason. Couple that with the fact that the Raptors have gotten off to an uneasy start to the season, and there is a scenario in which Toronto could move Lowry at the deadline.
And according to a report, it’s not exactly something that Toronto would be opposed to if it came to that. The report also suggests that Lowry wants to play for Philadelphia.
The Sixers would be a natural fit for Lowry. The only question that the Sixers would need to answer is whether or not he’d be a good fit next to Ben Simmons. Considering that Lowry is an undersized guard that has played next to other past-first, primary ball-handling guards in the past, you have to think that the answer to that question is a resounding yes.
Assuming that is so, there’s no question of the Sixers should do everything that they can to acquire a player such as Lowry. He’s championship-level tested, a good defender, and is a player that can create his own shot, and be a late-game creator for this team – an aspect that has haunted this team since Jimmy Butler left for Miami.
It’s Lowry’s intangibles that will have the most impact on the Sixers this season and into the playoffs if he is acquired by the team. If it isn’t too costly, Philadelphia should be all-in on acquiring Lowry.
He might not be the headlining name that gets this team over the top as the betting favorite to come out of the Eastern Conference, but he is a player that could pay dividends in the postseason and one that helps your team win in big moments.
If the Brooklyn Nets don’t win the NBA Finals this season, it will be due to the lack of depth that they have on their roster. The blueprint to beating the Nets likely revolves around terrific defense and a deep rotation. Adding Kyle Lowry would help the Sixers on both of those fronts.
