Kevin Porter Jr. is another intriguing prospect for the Houston Rockets.
The Houston Rockets may be on a 16-game losing streak and may have the third-worst record in the NBA at the moment, but there are some encouraging signs about the franchise moving forward that can be taken from this season.
With the first being Christian Wood.
Before his injury, which has kept him out since early-February, Christian Wood was putting together an All-Star caliber season. After making the move from Detroit to Houston, Wood was in the midst of a breakout season, averaging 22 points and 10 rebounds on 56 percent shooting from the field and 42 percent shooting from 3-point range.

It’s quite clear that his injury put a damper on the season. The team has gone off the rails since his departure out of the lineup. A second bright spot on the season, however, has been the recent play of Kevin Porter Jr., who was acquired from the Cleveland Cavaliers in January.
Since being called up by the Rockets, Porter is averaging 17 points and eight assists per game. In three games, he’s shown flashes of brilliance and the raw talent is very much evident. He’s only 21 years old and may have some off-the-court concerns, but if the Rockets can develop him properly they may have another steal on their hands.
Between the emergence of Wood and the encouraging signs from Porter, the Rockets have two bright spots on the season thus far despite having to trade away James Harden this year. Houston is not going to make the playoffs and looks destined for a top 5 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, but there is a glimmer of hope for this team’s future.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Rockets approach the NBA Trade Deadline considering they still have a couple of more veteran assets on the roster. Could they add even more building pieces ahead of the summer?
