NBA Trade Rumors: The Boston Celtics could trade Tristan Thompson ahead of the deadline.
When the Boston Celtics signed Tristan Thompson to a two-year deal during the 2020 NBA offseason, the expectation is they were acquiring a player that could potentially solidify this team’s frontcourt issues that plagued them in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat.
More than midway through Thompson’s first season with the team, though, it’s safe to say that the signing hasn’t exactly worked out as the Celtics hoped it would. In 36 games this season, Thompson is averaging eight points and eight rebounds in just 22 minutes per game.
Thompson has provided not much more than offensive rebounding and is not a tangible upgrade to Daniel Theis on either side of the court.

He’s been so much of a disappointment for the Celtics that they’re reportedly weighing the option of moving him ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline.
"[via Yahoo]League sources said the Boston Celtics could trade their starting center by the March 25 trade deadline with the Toronto Raptors being a possible destination."
The Toronto Raptors would be an interesting landing spot. They are in need of a productive big, especially after they lost Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol in free agency during the offseason. Thompson wouldn’t solve all of Toronto’s issues but could fill a much-needed role for the team.
It’s not sure what exactly the Celtics would be asking in exchange for Thompson, but it could offer some interesting scenarios for both teams leading up to the trade deadline.
The Boston Celtics are trying to make a surge up the Eastern Conference standings in the second half of the season. Though, they’re likely going to need help via the trade market to make it happen. Could they use Tristan Thompson as bait to find a deal of their liking? It sounds like Celtics general manager Danny Ainge is at least open to it.
