NBA Trade Rumors: The New York Knicks are reportedly interested in Andre Drummond.
Andre Drummond is one of the biggest names that many expect to be moved heading into the NBA Trade Deadline. Though, there’s a chance that the Cleveland Cavaliers have a little trouble in getting fair value in exchange for the big man.
While Drummond is posting great counting numbers, it’s tough to gauge his value in a league that is quickly transitioning away from the traditional big man. That said, the expectation is that there will be some suitors for Drummond – whether he’s traded or eventually bought out by the Cavs.
According to a recent report (subscription required), the New York Knicks are one team that has expressed interest in acquiring Drummond with the hope of extending him during the offseason.

The Knicks have been one of the biggest surprises in the Eastern Conference and are currently 20-19 and in the seventh seed. New York has its sight set on making the playoffs and could make a fringe move to help that goal at the deadline.
If they could get Drummond cheap, I’m not sure this front office would hesitate to make the move. Though, this report is quite interesting considering they have to make a big decision on the future of Mitchell Robinson.
Robinson has a team option for next season, with the Knicks will likely exercise, but would need to try to extend him to a contract sooner rather than later – or they will gamble on losing him for nothing after next season.
Even though he hasn’t blossomed as the team had hoped on the offensive end this season, Robinson is still viewed as a building block for the team and is extremely valuable to the franchise. Adding Drummond would complicate that.
Such a move would point to one of two things. On one hand, it could mean that the team is not willing to wait on Robinson’s development and may not want to invest in him long-term. On the other hand, it could signal that the team wants to use Drummond as somewhat of a stopgap as the team continues to develop Robinson is more of a shadow role.
Either way, the Knicks acquiring Andre Drummond at the NBA Trade Deadline would be quite a bold move. And could help tip New York’s hand on how they will approach the offseason.
