Anthony Edwards is beginning to hit his stride with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

When the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Anthony Edwards with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, many questioned whether they were making the right decision with LaMelo Ball on the board and falling to No. 3.

And through the first half of the season, many of those questions only grew louder as Ball was beginning to develop into a promising player while helping lead the upstart Charlotte Hornets to a good start to the season.

However, after the up-and-down start to the season, Edwards has begun to hit his stride as of late. In his last seven games, Edwards is averaging 24 points and six rebounds on 41 percent shooting from the field.

Even though the Timberwolves have been one of the worst teams in the league this season, it’s a great sign that Edwards is beginning to make strides in his game. It’s a tough ask for him to be the most consistent and reliable weapon on every night, and having to play such a big role isn’t ideal, but he’s responding at every turn.

Would his rookie season be viewed differently if the Wolves were having a better season? You can’t help but wonder, considering how LaMelo Ball is viewed with the Hornets. While he has certainly come on as late, he did have a rough start as well in Charlotte.

Even James Wiseman continues to be hit or miss on most nights for the Golden State Warriors. In a way, this has become a throw-away season for the Wolves. The team is likely going to finish with another top draft pick and will be back to the drawing board this offseason.

The recent play of Anthony Edwards, if he can sustain it towards the latter portion of the season, should give the Timberwolves some momentum heading into next season. More than anything, that’s all really Minnesota needed to see from their rookie this year.

In a season without a true offseason, proper draft process, or even a training camp, many rookies were at a disadvantage heading into this season. Any flashes that Anthony Edwards could’ve shown this year would’ve been a welcomed sight.

Edwards has done that and then some this year in Minnesota. He may not be as polarizing as a star as LaMelo Ball may be developing into, but Anthony Edwards is developing into a really good player.
