Miami Heat trade rumors: Spencer Dinwiddie could be a target at the deadline?

The Miami Heat have shown interest in Spencer Dinwiddie, but it doesn’t seem like a real possibility.

After acquiring Trevor Ariza (for Meyers Leonard and a second-round pick) from the Oklahoma City Thunder earlier this week, it’s now being reported that the Miami Heat has shown interest (on some level) in injured Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie.

This is actually interesting on several fronts, even more so considering that such a move would involve the Heat taking a bit of a step back in the Eastern Conference pecking order and helping one of their main competitors.

Miami would have to part ways with a tangible asset in hopes of Dinwiddie’s future – a move that has not been all that common for a Pat Riley-led organization. Nevertheless, Dinwiddie might be viewed as a good enough player to start.

Dinwiddie only played in three games with the Nets this season before suffering a torn ACL (seven points, four rebounds, and three assists per game). Though, he’s coming off a breakout season in which he averaged 21 points, seven assists, and four rebounds per game on 42 percent shooting from the field.

He could emerge as the team’s long-term answer at the point guard position and would give Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo another consistent offensive scorer. However, you’d have to wonder what the cost would be for Miami.

Part of the reason why such a move would signal a step back for Miami is the fact that they’d have to part ways with a rotation player, and possibly two in order for the Nets to sign off.

That means a package surrounded around Duncan Robinson or Goran Dragic would likely have to be the starting point.

Or, perhaps the Heat could find a third team to give what the Nets would be interested in. Either way, while the interest may be honest, I’m not sure the Heat trading for Spencer Dinwiddie is that plausible.

Miami may not be done making moves ahead of the trade deadline, but I don’t think it will be for a big-name. Another similar move to what we saw them make earlier this week could very well be on deck. Not Spencer Dinwiddie, nor any other big move is coming for the Heat.
