20. New York Knicks (via Dallas) – Cameron Thomas, G, LSU
With their second first-round pick, the Knicks take a chance on Cameron Thomas, a guard out of LSU. Thomas seems like a natural offensive scorer – he averaged 23 points per game during his freshman season at LSU – but needs to develop efficiency on that end of the floor.
He would be a good compliment to RJ Barrett and would help this team gain some depth in the backcourt, even if he isn’t ready to play a big role for the team during his freshman season.
There are also questions about his defensive capabilities and effort; though that will likely be addressed on a Tom Thibodeau-led team. Thomas would be a solid pick for the Knicks, who at this point is trying to improve along the edges.
