NBA Trade Rumors: The Boston Celtics are emerging as the favorites to land Aaron Gordon.
Just a few days ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline, the rumor mill smoke is already beginning to rise. One team that is expected to try and improve its roster before this week’s trade deadline is the Boston Celtics.
At 21-22, the Celtics are sitting in the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference and could use a mid-season acquisition to jumpstart the team heading into the playoff push. Even though the Celtics have struggled so far this season, the good news is that the team is only one game back of the fourth seed.
There’s still hope to host a first-round playoff series. Acquiring a game-changing player at the trade deadline could be the first step in turning the season around. One potential target that has emerged and is perhaps emerging as a favorite is Aaron Gordon.

Gordon reportedly formally asked the Orlando Magic for a trade earlier this week and, at the very least, it appears that the team is gauging the market for him. In a follow-up report, it appears that the Celtics are the early clubhouse leader in the pursuit of Gordon.
During his seventh season in the league, Gordon is averaging 17 points, seven rebounds, and four assists per game on 44 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent shooting from 3-point range. He’s still only 25 years old and arguably hasn’t even maxed out his potential in the NBA.
A change of scenery could be exactly what Gordon needs to jolt some excitement back into his game. At the same rate, his presence could do the same for the Celtics. He’d help bring some stability to the frontcourt and would give them a legit versatile, athletic big that they could play all over the floor.
A reported deal between the two involves multiple first-round draft picks, Boston’s trade exception, and a player (possibly Marcus Smart) moving from Boston to Orlando.
Should the Boston Celtics add Aaron Gordon, that would make for an interesting playoff push for the middle of the Eastern Conference. Would this move take them over the top among the middling teams? It remains to be seen, but this is a move that would certainly raise the team’s ceiling – even if it is slightly.
