The Miami Heat didn’t give up anything and still improved

You can’t fault what the Miami Heat elected to do at the trade deadline. In fact, on paper, the Heat didn’t give up much (respect to Kelly Olynyk) and addressed a big need in the backcourt. Victor Oladipo has his flaws (especially since his quad injury), but he’s still a good defender on the wing, something the Heat drastically needed next to Jimmy Butler, and is a primary scoring guard.

Miami only had to give up Avery Bradley (who hasn’t even played much for the Heat this season) and Kelly Olynyk (who was replaced by the team earlier in the day with the Nemanja Bjelica acquisition.

The Heat added in areas of need at the trade deadline without really losing anything in the process – which is quite rare. Whether it all works out remains to be seen, but the job that Pat Riley and Andy Elisburg did on deadline day was exemplary. That should not be lost in however the season ends for the Heat.
