The Brooklyn Nets have done a great job in going all-in on the season, but will it be enough to win a championship?
When the Brooklyn Nets signed Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving during the summer of 2019, many were quick to predict how good the team would be during the 2020-21 season – Durant was, at the time, sidelined with an Achilles injury.
Through more than the first half of this season, the Nets haven’t disappointed. And neither has their front office who have continues to build this team around those blockbuster signings.
I don’t think you can argue that the Nets haven’t done a great job in going all-in on this season – the first fully healthy season since signing both Durant and Kyrie.

Shortly after the start of the season, the Nets made the big play for James Harden. Even though it thinned out their depth, the team wasn’t afraid to add talent to an already talented roster. Since then, the team has done a more than stellar job in trying to fill out the depth that was lost.
The team has signed two big names – Blake Griffin and, recently, LaMarcus Aldridge – in an attempt to fill out a championship roster. Griffin has looked solid with the team since making his debut and Aldridge should be able to add depth to the frontcourt, even if he isn’t at the prime of his career anymore.
And the Nets might not be done. They’ll continue to be active in the buyout market and will likely be in on a 3-and-D player if one becomes available between now and the playoffs.
It’ll be interesting to see if all these moves, over the past two years, will be enough to net (no pun intended) a championship.
You can’t help but think that the Nets, considering the circumstances, are looking more and more like the favorites to win the championship. The Los Angeles Lakers are banged up in the West, many still aren’t buying into the Utah Jazz, and the LA Clippers and Denver Nuggets are inconsistent toss-ups.
In the East, the Milwaukee Bucks are still trying to find their stride and Joel Embiid is currently injured for the Philadelphia 76ers. Assuming that the Nets make it to the playoffs healthy, they’ll be the frontrunners.
This front office has done an amazing job over the last couple of offseasons. They’ve put this team in a position to win a championship. The only question now is, can this core get it done?
