Buying or selling the Sacramento Kings’ recent hot streak?

When the NBA Trade Deadline came and went, it was somewhat surprising that the Sacramento Kings elected to hold onto some of their veteran assets such as Harrison Barnes who had been the subject of more than a few trade rumors over the past several weeks.

However, now that the Kings are on a five-game winning streak you can’t help but wonder if the team made the right decision by, for the most part, standing pat at the deadline.

Thanks to their recent winning streak, the Kings are now just 2.5 games back of the eighth seed in the Western Conference and should be considered a candidate to make a late-season push towards the playoffs.

However, how much stock can we put into the team’s recent play? The Kings have won five games in a row and are 7-3 in their last 10 games. During that span, the team has the seventh-best offense in the league.

What isn’t encouraging is that the team hasn’t improved much, if at all, on the defensive side of the ball. Sacramento is ranked dead-last in the league defensively and is ranked 24th in their recent hot streak.

Specifically speaking, De’Aaron Fox has been the star that the Kings have needed this season. During the month of March, specifically, Fox is averaging 30 points, seven assists, and four rebounds per game on 53 percent shooting from the field.

If there was any question about Fox and his ability to be the star in the league, those concerns have quietly faded. Whether he could be a No. 1 option on a playoff team remains to be seen, but Fox is a budding star in the league. There’s no question about that.

If nothing else, that’s something the Kings can rely on during this recent hot streak.

Over the next week and a half, the Kings will be challenged. They will face four playoff teams in their next six games. We’re going to get a better look at whether or not the Kings will be able to use this post-trade deadline hot streak towards making a real run up the Western Conference standings and into the playoffs.
