NBA players that have fallen short of expectations: Tyler Herro, Miami Heat

There may not have been a bigger winner from last year’s playoffs in the restart bubble than Tyler Herro. He grew into a folk hero (no pun intended) and the expectations for him entering this season were somewhat unfair. He was expected to make the jump to stardom and emerge as the third star in a big three for the Miami Heat.

In short, that exactly hasn’t happened. In fact, there’s a case to be made that the Heat is actually better when Herro is off the floor. After a sensational playoff run, Herro is averaging 15 points and five rebounds on just 34 percent shooting from 3-point range.

He’s regressed with his consistency and 3-point shooting that has made him a minus-player, on most nights, for the Heat this season. He’s still a liability on the defensive end and without efficient offense or high-level playmaking, he simply can’t have the same impact for the team as he did in the restart bubble.
