NBA players that have fallen short of expectations: Davis Bertans, Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards are on pace to shake off their rough start to the season and qualify for the Eastern Conference playoff play-in tournament and with Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook leading the way, who knows what this team can do. Though, if there’s one player that has disappointed the team this season, it’s been Davis Bertans.

When the Wizards signed Bertans to a five-year, $80 million, I don’t think they had a regression in mind during his first season. Nevertheless, that’s exactly what Bertans is experiencing this season with the club. The good news is that he hasn’t completely fallen off as a player, but I also don’t think many will look at his on-the-court impact and suggest that he’s worth $80 million even in today’s NBA.

Bertans is averaging 11 points and three rebounds per game on 40 percent shooting from the field and 39 percent shooting from 3-point range. His offensive production and efficiency are both down from last season and there’s no question that the team has felt that, even though they’re playing a bit better as of late.
