Grading Brad Stevens’ first big move as president for the Boston Celtics.

It was somewhat curious when it was announced that Danny Ainge was stepping down as the Boston Celtics team president. It was even more surprising when it was announced that Brad Stevens would be taking over that same role.

Roughly a week after the news first initially went down, Stevens has now officially made his first big move on the job. And it came in the way of a blockbuster trade centered around Kemba Walker. There were whispers that the Celtics and Walker could be moving towards a parting of ways this offseason, but I don’t think anyone believed it would come this soon.

Officially, the Celtics traded Kemba, the 16th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, a 2025 second-round draft pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Al Horford, Moses Brown, and a 2023 second-round pick.

The Stevens era is firmly underway in Boston; we grade his first move with the team, taking a look at all angles of the deal.
