Grading Brad Stevens’ first move for the Boston Celtics: A good first step

This is likely the first move in what will be a busy offseason for Stevens and the Celtics. One thing is clear, however, and it’s that Stevens is not going to waste any time with trying to create his own lane in Boston. And that has to be refreshing for Celtics fans.

How many times have we heard of moves that Aigne “almost made?” Too many. For Stevens to come in and make such a bold move, you can’t help but feel encouraged if you’re a Celtics fan. Stevens is not going to hesitate to make a move that needs to be made.

Even though many will get the jokes in on the Celtics today, this was likely a move that needed to be made to take a tangible step forward in the future. Something you have to admit your mistake and take a step back before taking a big step forward. I believe that’s exactly what Stevens was signaling with this move.

Overall, the Celtics get a C+ for this move. Having to include the No. 16 pick in this deal hurts. Hopefully, this is just the first of many moves this offseason for the Celtics.
