NBA Trade Rumors: There’s reportedly a 75 percent chance that the Miami Heat trade Tyler Herro this offseason.
At this point in the season last year, the Miami Heat were in the midst of one of the most surprising playoff runs in recent NBA history. And one player that was at the forefront of the team’s success was Tyler Herro.
Even after a solid rookie regular season, before the NBA’s stoppage, Herro managed to take his game to the next level in the restart bubble. He was one of the team’s most impressive players and played a big part in the team’s run to the NBA Finals.
Herro’s impressive run in the playoff restart bubble was punctuated by a 37-point outburst in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics. Even though he came back to earth a bit in the NBA Finals against the Lakers, the expectation was that the Heat had found another diamond in the rough Herro.

However, it’s looking like there’s not going to be a happy ending for Herro in Miami despite what transpired in last year’s playoffs. After a confusing up-and-down sophomore season in Miami in which Herro looked like a shell of his bubble self, it’s looking like his days with the Heat could be numbered.
According to a recent report, there’s a “75 percent chance” Herro is traded this offseason. While this isn’t exactly a surprising revelation, it’s certainly not the outcome that either Herro or the Heat had hoped for.

That said, assuming that this report is accurate, this is probably something that could end up working best for both sides. After his breakout playoff performance, Herro was given some lofty, and perhaps unfair, expectations.
For as good as Herro was, and still is, I don’t think it was ever fair to place his ceiling as superstar status. And that’s exactly what happened with a historically great playoff run for a rookie.
Herro may end up being a really good player for a really long time, but it may not be in the cards for all that to take place in Miami. Especially if the theory that the fame and expectation got to him this season.
Either way, heading into the offseason, it’ll be interesting to see what the Heat will be seeking for Herro in the open market. And whether there’s a hardline on an asking price, etc. Is Miami entering the offseason hoping to trade Herro just for the sake of trading him? Or are they hoping to use him to acquire a talent that will be able to help Jimmy Butler and the rest of this core sooner than Herro can?
